My Journey.

Since I was a teenager, I have loved the creation of a beautiful image. I was lucky to spend my summers in the mountains of New Hampshire at Camp Calumet. I would spend hours developing in the dark room and I loved watching the image emerge onto the surface in complete quiet. That was in the 90's- what is now considered "vintage".

As I was preparing to empty nest, I felt a pull to re-create that same peace and calm and to attempt to fill the empty space that my kids had left. Digital photography felt like an abyss of unknown. But I went out and bought a DSLR and started from the beginning.

I was patient with myself, each day seeking to learn something new and yet strangely familiar. The wealth of inspiration and knowledge out there is endless. I wanted to capture the essence of a moment; the subtle emotion, the beauty lying below the surface, the faint light that illuminates and changes everything. I wanted to shoot beautiful people in beautiful places. But a small voice urged, "just shoot what you know." What I knew was cheerleading.... (you didn't see that coming!). So I began my photography business shooting portraits at my daughter's cheer gym. A community filled with beautiful humans that supported each new idea, forgave each little mistake. I prolonged "what I knew" long after Lindsey graduated. I started shooting my daughters senior pictures and I watched myself improve with each session, I watched myself fall in love with watching that image emerge again. This time from an iPad.

As a photographer, I have expanded "what I know". I traveled to Iceland, Turks and Prague- I begin witnessing as my children expand what they know. My greatest source of content and inspiration now off creating their own memories- I remain connected to the best parts of my life through the connections and relationships of motherhood. What I know of mothering teenage daughters is that their image of themselves waivers. To create an image that captures their laughter, their beauty, their joy is a privilege. To bear witness to this milestone of adolescence and to mirror back something beautiful in their eyes is no easy task. I am incredibly grateful for the challenge and for the opportunity to offer my clients the emergence of something beautiful- to capture the changing ways their joy is unfolding. Still with big dreams of elopements in exotic places, I continue to shoot what I know while still expanding into new and glorious territory- bearing witness to new phases of life.
